US–Israel–Iran War | Dubai residents receive missile alerts as Middle East tensions disrupt flights
According to the notification sent to residents, people were advised to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary outdoor movement and be prepared for any emergency situation. Many residents reported receiving multiple alerts within a short period, prompting them to take precautionary steps such as stocking essential supplies and preparing emergency bags containing passports and important documents. The sudden warning heightened anxiety in the city, which serves as a major global transit and commercial hub.
The security alert came as the regional conflict intensified following coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets that reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The incident triggered strong retaliation from Tehran, which launched a series of missile attacks targeting locations linked to US forces in several Gulf nations.
The rapidly escalating conflict has significantly disrupted aviation across the Middle East. Airspace restrictions and safety concerns have forced airlines to suspend or reroute flights, leading to travel chaos throughout the region. Dubai, home to one of the busiest international airports in the world, has been among the cities most affected by the disruptions as regional tensions continue to rise.
The aviation crisis has left thousands of passengers stranded, including a large number of Indian travellers in Gulf countries, particularly in the United Arab Emirates. Since early March, many stranded passengers have gradually been able to return to India as limited flight operations resumed. Several travellers expressed appreciation for the authorities in Dubai and the UAE for managing the situation efficiently despite the sudden disruption to travel.
Amid the ongoing crisis, the United Arab Emirates also addressed speculation about its potential involvement in the conflict. A media report had claimed that the UAE was considering joining the United States and Israel in military strikes against Iran in response to Iranian drone and missile attacks targeting the country. However, the UAE government swiftly rejected the claim.
In an official statement issued through the Emirates News Agency, the UAE clarified that it had not taken any decision to alter its defensive posture in response to Iranian attacks. The statement emphasized that reports suggesting the country was preparing to participate in military action were inaccurate.
Meanwhile, regional tensions remain high as Iran continues to launch missile and drone strikes across the Gulf following the US-Israel offensive that began on February 28. Some of the reported targets included locations associated with US operations, including facilities near Dubai and the Al Dhafra Air Base in Abu Dhabi.
The ongoing confrontation has raised serious global security concerns, with governments around the world urging restraint to prevent further escalation. Air travel, commercial transport and trade routes across the Middle East remain disrupted, while diplomatic efforts continue to prevent the crisis from escalating into a wider regional conflict. Observers warn that unless tensions ease soon, the instability could deepen the crisis in one of the world’s most strategically important regions.
