Modi said the country has significantly expanded its strategic petroleum reserve in recent years, a move that has helped improve preparedness for potential supply shocks. According to him, India had negligible storage capacity for strategic oil reserves before 2014, but the situation has changed considerably as the government invested in building energy buffers to protect the nation’s fuel supply. He said these measures have contributed to major savings and improved the country’s ability to manage volatility in global energy markets.

The prime minister also addressed concerns surrounding the supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and criticised attempts to create panic among the public. Without naming individuals or groups, he said some people were spreading fear regarding LPG availability and warned that such actions not only mislead citizens but also harm the country. Modi said authorities would take strict action against anyone involved in black marketing or attempts to exploit the situation by hoarding essential commodities.

Referring to the broader geopolitical environment, Modi said the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States has intensified pressure on global energy supplies. He noted that recent years have seen multiple disruptions, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, both of which had significant economic and energy implications worldwide.

According to the prime minister, such challenges test the resilience and preparedness of nations. He stressed the need for calm and collective responsibility while dealing with global uncertainties. Modi said strengthening public awareness and maintaining trust among citizens are essential for navigating difficult circumstances, adding that governments and the public must work together to ensure stability during periods of crisis.
