Trump Claims US Forces Destroy Iranian Attackers in Strait of Hormuz

On May 7, President Donald Trump claimed that U.S. forces successfully destroyed Iranian attackers targeting three U.S. Navy destroyers as they transited the Strait of Hormuz. Trump, in a post on Truth Social, reported that the American destroyers were under fire but sustained no damage. He further stated that the Iranian attackers, along with several small boats used by the attackers, were completely destroyed. According to Trump, Iranian missiles fired at the U.S. destroyers were easily intercepted, and drones launched at the warships were “incinerated” mid-flight, falling into the ocean like a "butterfly dropping to its grave."

Trump’s remarks came after U.S. Central Command confirmed that American forces struck Iranian military facilities linked to the missile, drone, and small boat attacks. The U.S. military described these as "unprovoked" strikes targeting American warships. Trump emphasized that the U.S. was prepared to retaliate even more harshly in the future, warning that if Iran escalated tensions further, it would face more severe and violent responses.

Additionally, Trump issued a stern warning to Tehran, stating that should Iran gain access to a nuclear weapon, it would use it without hesitation. However, the president reassured that the U.S. would prevent this from happening. “Just like we knocked them out again today, we’ll knock them out a lot harder and a lot more violently in the future, if they don’t get their deal signed FAST!” Trump said.

The conflict between the U.S. and Iran has become increasingly tense, particularly in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route for global oil transport. The U.S. military’s successful defense of its warships from Iranian missiles and drones represents a major escalation in the ongoing tensions. As President Trump continues to apply pressure on Iran over its nuclear ambitions and regional actions, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains a focal point of global security concerns. The U.S. has signaled that any further aggression from Iran will be met with swift and powerful retaliation.
