“Our American friends keep us constantly updated on their contacts with Iran. The objectives of the United States and our own are identical,” Netanyahu said. He outlined key priorities, including curbing Iran’s nuclear capabilities and restoring broader regional stability. According to Netanyahu, these goals include removing enriched nuclear material from Iran, eliminating its enrichment capacity, and ensuring the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route.
In parallel, Netanyahu addressed Israel’s security concerns along its northern border, referencing ongoing discussions with Lebanon. He described Israel’s objectives in its first direct talks with Lebanon in decades as focused on long-term security and stability. “There are two central objectives: first, the dismantling of Hezbollah; second, achieving sustainable peace through strength,” he said, signaling a firm stance on the Iran-backed militant group.
Separately, the Israeli military reported that five Israel Defense Forces soldiers were injured in a rocket attack by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, April 16, 2026. One soldier was reported to be in serious condition, while four sustained light injuries. The injured personnel were transported to a hospital for treatment, and their families were notified.
The developments highlight escalating tensions in the region, as Israel continues to address security threats while coordinating closely with the United States on Iran and broader Middle East policy.
