Modi warns of energy crisis, outlines India’s response to global conflict

NEW DELHI, India, March 26, 2026 — Narendra Modi on Thursday warned that ongoing global conflicts could trigger a prolonged energy crisis, posing significant risks to economies worldwide, including India.

Addressing Parliament, Modi struck a balanced yet firm tone, cautioning that continued geopolitical tensions may disrupt global energy markets and supply chains. He said such developments could lead to long-term economic challenges if not addressed promptly, while urging citizens to remain prepared for possible disruptions.

At the same time, Modi reassured the nation that the government is actively working to minimize the impact and protect economic stability. He emphasized that India’s response is focused on both preparedness and strategic diplomacy.

The government has formed seven empowered groups to oversee critical sectors such as fuel supply, logistics, fertilizers and inflation control. These groups are tasked with ensuring that essential systems remain stable and responsive amid rapidly evolving global conditions.

To strengthen energy security, India is also working to diversify its sources of crude oil and natural gas imports. Modi highlighted that securing uninterrupted energy supply remains a top priority, especially in the face of volatile international markets.

On the diplomatic front, India continues to advocate for dialogue and de-escalation as the most effective path to resolving global tensions. Domestically, Modi called for closer coordination between the central and state governments to maintain smooth supply chains and prevent disruptions in essential goods.

He also stressed the need to protect vulnerable populations, including farmers and migrant workers, by ensuring access to essential supplies and maintaining price stability.

Highlighting the importance of unity, Modi said a coordinated national effort will be key to navigating the challenges ahead while minimizing the impact on everyday citizens.
