Bengaluru Police Suspensions After PM Modi Route Security Scare
Six police personnel in Bengaluru have been suspended after two gelatin sticks were found near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s movement route during his visit to the city on May 10, 2026. The suspensions were ordered by the Bengaluru South district police authorities pending a departmental inquiry into the incident. According to police, the material was discovered during routine route sanitisation and security checks before the Prime Minister’s arrival. Reports place the recovery near Kaggalipura/Tataguni on Kanakapura Road, close to the Art of Living Foundation area, where PM Modi was scheduled to attend a programme. The spot was reportedly away from the main venue but close enough to raise serious concerns about route security and local police preparedness.
After the discovery, security agencies cordoned off the area and bomb disposal and forensic teams were rushed to examine the material. Police have opened a detailed investigation to find out who placed the gelatin sticks there, how they reached the area, and whether the act was meant to create panic or compromise the Prime Minister’s security. Some reports said the recovered material had a circuit-like setup and other related items, including wires and batteries, but officials are still verifying the exact nature and purpose of the material. The suspended personnel reportedly include a sub-inspector, and they will remain off duty until the inquiry is completed. The case is being treated seriously because PM route security normally involves multiple layers of checks, local police coordination, anti-sabotage teams and intelligence inputs.
Political Row Over Bengaluru Gelatin Sticks Case
The recovery of gelatin sticks near PM Modi’s Bengaluru route has also triggered a political row in Karnataka. BJP state president BY Vijayendra criticised the Congress government and called the incident an “unpardonable and grave failure.” He said there should not be even the smallest lapse when it comes to the Prime Minister’s security and demanded strict action against those responsible, including officials found negligent. Police, however, have said the investigation is still underway and more details will be known after the inquiry. For now, the Bengaluru gelatin sticks case has raised important questions about security planning, route clearance, explosive detection, and accountability during high-profile visits. The key issue is not just the recovery of the material, but how it was present near a protected route despite advance checks and heavy security arrangements.
