Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a breakfast interaction with around 45 newly elected and first-time NDA Lok Sabha MPs on Friday amid a turbulent Monsoon Session of Parliament. The meeting also included lawmakers who recently moved away from opposition parties such as the Trinamool Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) and are now aligned with the NDA. Modi reportedly used the interaction to reassure the MPs that they would be treated as equal members of the alliance and would receive opportunities to contribute.
House row
A major part of the discussion focused on repeated disruptions in Parliament. Modi expressed concern that continued protests and adjournments were limiting the chances available to newer MPs to speak in the House. He stressed that parliamentary proceedings should allow representatives to raise constituency concerns, participate in discussions and develop their skills as lawmakers.
MP debates
The Prime Minister encouraged MPs to study parliamentary history, use available records and prepare more thoroughly for debates. He also asked them to read, learn and understand the functioning of Parliament rather than depend only on political talking points. The message was aimed at improving the quality of participation and ensuring that MPs are better prepared when they receive speaking time.
State dev
Modi also linked national progress with stronger state-level development. He urged lawmakers to remain focused on issues affecting their respective states and constituencies, arguing that India can move forward only when individual states make progress. The advice placed local development, public welfare and constituency representation at the centre of an MP's parliamentary role.
NDA unity
The meeting also carried a strong message of alliance unity. Modi reportedly told MPs that the NDA should function like a family and that every individual would be respected. Rebel Trinamool Congress lawmakers and former Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs were among those reassured during the interaction. Participating MPs later described the discussion as cordial and focused on working together for public welfare and national development.
The interaction came during Modi's broader outreach to lawmakers during the Monsoon Session. Beyond political coordination, the meeting highlighted three expectations from NDA MPs: participate actively in Parliament, prepare seriously for debates and maintain a clear focus on development in their states and constituencies.
