Wife Alleges Russian Army Pressure After Moscow Detention
A Kanpur-based engineer, Chandan Gupta, has reportedly been detained by police in Moscow during a work-related stay in Russia. According to his wife, Sneha Gupta, Chandan was taken into custody while the family was in Moscow, leaving her and their 10-year-old son in a difficult situation.
Sneha said her husband works as an engineer and is associated with a company based in Noida’s Sector 62. He had travelled to Russia on a work visa for an assignment. Following his detention, she appealed to the Indian and Uttar Pradesh governments for immediate assistance.
She has also alleged that Chandan is being pressured to join the Russian military after being detained. Sneha claimed that her husband had done nothing wrong and said he had faced harassment before being taken into custody. Her allegations have drawn attention because Indian nationals have previously reported being misled or pressured into military-related roles in Russia.
However, several important facts remain unverified. There is currently no independent confirmation explaining why Chandan was detained, where he is being held or whether any formal attempt has been made to recruit him into the Russian military.
Family Appeals To Modi And Yogi For Engineer’s Safe Return
Sneha has appealed directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, asking the authorities to intervene and help bring her husband safely back to India.
She said that her lack of knowledge of the Russian language has made the situation even more difficult, as she has been unable to fully understand what has happened to Chandan or why he was detained. She also asked people to share her appeal so that Indian authorities would take notice of the case.
As of the report, no official statement had been issued by Chandan’s employer, the Indian Embassy or Russian authorities confirming either his detention or the allegation that he is being pressured to join the army. That distinction is important, because the military-pressure claim currently comes from the family and has not been independently verified.
The case has also revived concerns about Indians travelling to Russia for employment and later becoming involved in military activities. The report notes that Indian authorities have previously worked to secure the release and repatriation of nationals affected by such cases and have warned citizens about suspicious overseas job offers linked to military recruitment.
