Cordelia Sky arrives in Mumbai with 1,500-drone show

Cordelia Sky arrives in Mumbai with 1,500-drone show as Cordelia Cruises begins a major expansion. The new vessel increases Cordelia Sky capacity, adds extensive cruise amenities and supports India cruise growth, while a third ship, Cordelia Sun 2027, is already planned.

Cordelia Sky arrives in Mumbai as 1,500 drones light up skyline

Mumbai witnessed a spectacular celebration as Cordelia Cruises marked the arrival of its second vessel, Cordelia Sky, with a 1,500-drone aerial show above Mahalaxmi Racecourse.

The choreographed display combined light, music and movement, creating formations inspired by Mumbai, India and the new cruise ship before concluding with a large depiction of Cordelia Sky. The event highlighted the company’s expansion at a time when cruise holidays are gaining greater attention among Indian travellers.

Mumbai drone show

The Mumbai drone show turned the city skyline into the backdrop for Cordelia Cruises’ latest milestone. The company used the spectacle to introduce Cordelia Sky while presenting its broader ambition to make cruising a more familiar holiday option for Indian families and travellers.

Cordelia Cruises President and CEO Jurgen Bailom said the company had set out to make cruises accessible to more Indians. He described the arrival of the second ship as an important step in expanding that vision.

Cordelia Sky capacity

Cordelia Sky measures 258 metres and weighs 77,104 tonnes. The vessel can accommodate around 2,004 guests at double occupancy across 1,002 staterooms, including 245 mini suites.

Together, Cordelia Cruises’ two ships will provide 1,798 staterooms and accommodate approximately 3,596 guests at double occupancy. The company says this represents a 126% increase in guest capacity compared with its previous single-ship operation.

Cordelia has welcomed more than 800,000 guests since beginning operations in 2021, giving the company an established customer base as it expands its fleet.

Cruise amenities

Cordelia Sky has been designed as a full-scale holiday destination rather than simply a mode of transport. The vessel includes 10 dining venues, 11 bars and lounges, a 930-seat theatre, two swimming pools and five hot tubs.

Guests will also have access to more than 30,000 square feet of open deck space, wellness facilities, live entertainment and activities for families and younger travellers.

Food offerings will combine Indian and international cuisines, with pure vegetarian and Jain meals available to meet the preferences of Indian guests.

Cordelia Sun 2027

The expansion is expected to continue beyond Cordelia Sky. The company has announced plans to introduce a third vessel, Cordelia Sun, in 2027.

Adding another ship would further increase available itineraries and passenger capacity while allowing Cordelia Cruises to serve a larger share of India's growing leisure travel market.

India cruise growth

India’s cruise sector remains relatively small compared with established global markets, but rising disposable incomes, improved port infrastructure and growing demand for experience-based holidays are creating opportunities.

Cordelia Sky’s arrival signals confidence in that potential. By increasing capacity and tailoring dining, entertainment and onboard services to Indian travellers, Cordelia Cruises is positioning itself to make cruise holidays a more mainstream part of India’s tourism market.
