Cyclone Arnab: Three States Send Teams to Restore Power in AP

Cyclone Arnab caused extensive damage to Andhra Pradesh’s electricity network, uprooting more than 15,000 poles and disrupting supplies across affected districts. Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu sent personnel and specialised equipment to support restoration work alongside state power teams.

Neighbouring States Mobilise Crews and Equipment: After Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu sought assistance, neighbouring governments arranged additional power crews and machinery. Telangana planned to send around 500 to 600 electricity personnel with emergency vehicles and repair materials. Karnataka mobilised 500 trained workers, 15 Palfinger trucks fitted with cranes and earth augers, and 25 tractor-mounted drilling machines. Tamil Nadu dispatched a 500-member electricity department team after coordination between Naidu and Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.

Teams Join Andhra Pradesh Restoration Efforts: The visiting personnel are working with Andhra Pradesh electricity officials to clear damaged infrastructure, replace fallen poles, repair snapped high-tension wires and restore local distribution lines. The specialised cranes and drilling equipment are intended to help crews install replacement poles more quickly. With outages affecting cyclone-hit areas, restoring electricity has become a priority for households, businesses and essential services. The extent of damage across coastal districts makes this a large-scale operation, requiring crews to address major repairs while gradually restoring connections.

Regional Coordination During Recovery: The assistance brings together power departments from four southern states in response to damage within Andhra Pradesh. The deployment shows how neighbouring administrations can share manpower and equipment during an emergency, even when led by different political alliances. The article also recalls Andhra Pradesh’s recovery after Cyclone Hudhud in 2014, when Naidu was chief minister, as a previous example of post-cyclone restoration efforts.
