Spotify and Claude outages disrupted thousands of U.S. users on September 29, 2026. Downdetector logged more than 17,000 Spotify reports and over 11,000 Claude reports as Spotify and Anthropic investigated separate service problems.
Thousands of U.S. users reported problems with Spotify and Anthropic’s Claude on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, as separate disruptions affected the music-streaming and artificial intelligence services.
Downdetector recorded more than 17,000 U.S. reports involving Spotify and more than 11,000 involving Claude during the disruptions.
Spotify outage draws more than 17,000 reports
More than 17,000 U.S. users had reported Spotify problems by 10:12 a.m. ET on September 29, according to Downdetector.
Spotify acknowledged the disruption on X, saying it was aware of “some issues” and was investigating. At that stage, the company had not disclosed what caused the problems.
The outage affected one of the world's major music and audio streaming platforms, prompting a sharp increase in user reports during the U.S. morning.
Claude outage affects thousands of users
Anthropic’s Claude also experienced service problems on September 29. More than 11,000 U.S. users had reported issues through Downdetector as the incident developed.
Anthropic said it was investigating elevated error rates across Claude services. The company had not disclosed the underlying cause in the initial update cited by Reuters.
Claude is Anthropic’s generative AI platform and is used through its consumer-facing service as well as related AI tools.
Downdetector figures reflect user reports
The Downdetector totals should not be interpreted as confirmed numbers of affected customers. The service compiles outage information using reports voluntarily submitted by users along with other indicators.
As a result, the actual number of people affected by either outage could be higher or lower than the reported totals.
Companies investigate separate disruptions
The outages attracted attention because Spotify and Claude serve different areas of the technology industry, and there was no indication in the reporting that the disruptions were connected.
At the time of the initial reports, both Spotify and Anthropic had acknowledged service problems and were investigating. Neither had publicly identified a specific cause for the disruptions in the updates cited at that stage.
