40,000 Flags Planted for Great Flag Caper in Irving, Texas

In the spirit of patriotism and unity, volunteers in Irving, Texas, are busy planting 40,000 American flags as part of the 2025 Great Flag Caper. This annual tradition brings together hundreds of residents to decorate the streets and show their love for the country, just in time for the Fourth of July. The flags will be placed in front of homes, businesses, and places of worship, spanning almost 11 miles of MacArthur Boulevard.

The event, led by Nell Ann Hunt, has become a local staple for over three decades. Hunt describes the experience as a "Norman Rockwell event," where community members come together to foster relationships and create a sense of unity. Many volunteers, like nine-year-old David Hernandez and 17-year-old Devin Patel, have been part of the initiative for years, with Patel even organizing a club to recruit volunteers. The event not only helps beautify the neighborhood but also connects people who may have never interacted before.

This local tradition has grown beyond Irving, with residents who have moved across the country bringing the idea to other states. "They say they remember so much, with so much happiness, getting to put out flags and the beauty that it creates," Hunt shared. The flag planting continues through July 3, and anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to visit the group’s Facebook page for more information. As the flags continue to fill the streets, the Great Flag Caper remains a powerful reminder of community spirit and national pride.
