Upasana Leads Fujifilm-Apollo Breast Cancer Campaign : Exclusive Interview

What inspired you to become the face of this breast cancer awareness campaign?

Upasana Kamineni:
I’ve always believed that healthcare isn't a privilege, it's a basic right. Women in many parts of India suffer in silence because of lack of awareness and access. When Fujifilm India approached us with this idea, I saw it as a powerful opportunity to create real grassroots impact. Breast health deserves the same open conversation we have around other health conditions.

What is the core message behind the "Find It Early. Fight It Early" campaign?

Upasana Kamineni:
The core idea is very simple early detection can save lives. Many Indian women get diagnosed at late stages due to stigma, myths, or lack of facilities. Through this campaign, we aim to break those barriers and ensure every woman knows that self-checks and screenings are not taboo they’re lifesaving.

Which regions will this campaign cover and how many women do you hope to reach?

Upasana Kamineni:
We’re covering 24 cities across India, reaching over 1.5 lakh women. These include low-income urban areas, rural belts, and communities that often go underserved. We’re using trained female healthcare workers who can deliver culturally appropriate awareness, which builds trust.

How does this campaign fit into Apollo Foundation’s overall mission?

Upasana Kamineni:
At Apollo Foundation, we focus on "healing the nation with humanity." Whether it’s heart care, mental health, or now cancer prevention our mission is to make quality healthcare available to all. This campaign is a natural extension of that vision.

What role does technology play in this initiative?

Upasana Kamineni:
A major role. Fujifilm’s diagnostic imaging tools allow for non-invasive early detection. Combining that with Apollo’s healthcare network and trained personnel, we are bringing top-tier technology into under-resourced areas directly into the lives of women who need it most.

How can communities, influencers, and media contribute to this movement?

Upasana Kamineni:
By talking about it. Share stories, spread awareness, break stigmas. Doctors, journalists, influencers all of you have the power to amplify this message. The more we talk about breast health like we talk about diabetes or hypertension, the more lives we can save.
