Houston Weather: Extreme Heat Continues with 100-Degree Temperatures and Storm Chances This Week

Houston is experiencing a dangerous heatwave this week, with forecast highs reaching close to 100°F by Wednesday. These temperatures are nearing the all-time record for this date, which stands at 101°F, set in 2018. Monday's high reached 98°F, and it looks like the heat will persist for several more days. Along with the high temperatures, the humidity is not letting up, keeping the heat index between 103°F and 106°F every afternoon through Friday.

Although Houston is not under a formal heat advisory at this time, some areas to the east, like Beaumont and Port Arthur, are experiencing heat advisories with heat index values as high as 108°F. In Houston, the heat index could still reach between 104°F and 106°F, so it’s essential to stay cool, hydrated, and take necessary precautions during the scorching afternoons.

As the week progresses, the remnants of a storm system that caused heavy rain in Louisiana last week are expected to return to the Gulf by midweek. This could lead to rain and thunderstorms in Houston and Southeast Texas by Friday and Saturday, with a 40% chance of storms as of now. While the system may not strengthen significantly due to its proximity to land, it is something to monitor carefully.

Looking ahead, Houston's 10-day forecast calls for highs in the upper 90s and muggy lows in the upper 70s to 80°F throughout the week. As of now, there is no significant relief from the heat until the potential rain chances later in the week. With summer heat in full swing, it’s important for residents to stay informed and prepared for both the heat and any potential storms that may arise.
