US–Israel–Iran War | Iran claims drone strike on UAE base; UAE says most missiles and drones intercepted
According to reports circulated by the West Asian News Agency, the total number of casualties from the incident may exceed 220 people killed or wounded. Iranian military spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari said the operation targeted what he described as the most important operational center used by US forces. He alleged the base had been involved in a recent attack on a school in Minab, located in Iran’s southern Hormozgan province, which reportedly killed around 160 children along with between 14 and 26 staff members.
However, authorities in the United Arab Emirates have strongly disputed the Iranian claims. In a statement shared on social media, the UAE Ministry of Defence said the majority of incoming missiles and drones were successfully intercepted before reaching their targets. Officials stated that 15 of the 16 missiles launched were intercepted by air defence systems, while the remaining missile fell into the Persian Gulf. The ministry also said that of the 121 drones reportedly involved in the incident, 119 were neutralized before entering sensitive airspace.
Amid the conflicting accounts, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a message emphasizing that Iran does not intend to act aggressively toward neighboring countries. He stated that regional nations should cooperate to maintain peace and stability, describing neighboring states as partners that must work together to prevent further escalation.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump characterized the Iranian message differently, describing it as an apology or sign of surrender. He said Iran had suffered heavy consequences following recent military actions by the United States and Israel and suggested the statement was a reaction to what he called relentless attacks by both countries. The differing interpretations and competing claims surrounding the incident highlight the growing tensions in the Gulf region and raise concerns about the potential for further escalation.
