US–Israel–Iran War | Airstrike kills PMF commander in Iraq as Iran gas facilities suffer damage
An airstrike targeting a military installation used by the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) in Iraq’s Anbar province has resulted in multiple fatalities, including a senior commander, amid rising regional tensions. The Iran-aligned group confirmed that Saad Duwai al-Baiji, its Anbar commander, was among those killed in the strike.
Initial reports indicated that at least seven PMF fighters were killed and 13 others injured when the strike hit the base during what sources described as a commanders’ meeting. Several individuals were reportedly trapped under debris following the impact, with emergency teams working to locate survivors and transport the injured to nearby medical facilities.
The PMF attributed the attack to the United States, though there has been no immediate independent confirmation. The strike has intensified concerns over escalating conflict dynamics in Iraq, where multiple armed groups operate within a complex security environment.
Simultaneously, Iran reported damage to key energy infrastructure in separate incidents. In Isfahan province, a gas administration building and a gas reduction facility sustained structural damage following a reported strike. Nearby residential properties were also affected, though no casualties were confirmed.
In another incident, a projectile struck near a gas pipeline connected to a power plant in Khorramshahr, a strategic city close to Iran’s borders with Iraq and Kuwait. Authorities stated that the pipeline itself was not directly hit, and no injuries were reported in the area.
These developments reflect a widening scope of hostilities across the region, with attacks affecting both military and civilian infrastructure. Analysts warn that continued escalation could further destabilize the Middle East, as multiple fronts remain active and tensions show little sign of easing.
