Speaking alongside the Austrian leader, Modi described the current international environment as “serious and tense,” noting that ongoing conflicts have implications for countries worldwide. He stressed that both India and Austria share the view that sustainable peace must be achieved through dialogue and cooperation rather than continued military escalation. He also reiterated the importance of reforming global institutions to better address emerging geopolitical and economic challenges.
Modi highlighted that eliminating terrorism remains a shared international priority, calling for coordinated global efforts to counter threats that destabilize regions and undermine long-term peace. His remarks reflected a broader push by India to position itself as a proponent of multilateral engagement and conflict resolution.
Welcoming Stocker, Modi noted that India was the Austrian Chancellor’s first destination outside Europe on his current tour, describing the visit as a sign of Vienna’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. He characterized the trip as historically significant, marking the first visit by an Austrian Chancellor to India in approximately four decades.
The Prime Minister also pointed to evolving relations between India and the European Union, suggesting that recent developments have opened a new phase of engagement between India and Europe. He expressed optimism that the visit would further expand cooperation across economic, political, and strategic sectors.
Stocker’s four-day official visit to India is his first trip to the country and his first official visit to Asia since taking office in 2025. Both leaders signaled that the discussions could pave the way for deeper collaboration and a renewed focus on shared global priorities.
