Donald Trump Calls Iran’s War Proposal ‘Totally Unacceptable’

US President Donald Trump on May 10th,Sunday sharply rejected Iran’s latest proposal aimed at ending the conflict between the two countries, calling the response “totally unacceptable” and raising concerns about renewed military tensions in the Middle East. Trump made the remarks on his Truth Social platform shortly after Tehran submitted its counterproposal to Washington’s recent peace terms.

Although Trump did not disclose details of Iran’s response, he accused Tehran of attempting to manipulate negotiations and repeated his criticism of the Iranian leadership. In his statement, Trump said Iran had been “playing games” with both the United States and the international community for decades and warned that the country “will be laughing no longer.” The comments signaled a hardening stance from Washington despite earlier statements suggesting the military operation had already ended.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian responded by warning that Tehran would retaliate against any future US military strikes. He also opposed the deployment of additional foreign naval forces in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically critical shipping route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes. Iranian officials have repeatedly argued that security in the region should remain under the control of regional powers without foreign intervention.

The latest escalation follows Washington’s recently proposed 14-point framework intended to reduce tensions and address concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear program. Under the proposal, Iran would be required to halt uranium enrichment activities for at least 12 years, permanently commit to not developing nuclear weapons, and surrender its estimated stockpile of uranium enriched to 60 percent purity. In return, the United States proposed gradually easing economic sanctions, releasing frozen Iranian assets, and ending its naval blockade affecting Iranian ports.

Iran had earlier advanced its own three-stage proposal through diplomatic channels involving Pakistan. The first phase demanded a complete cessation of military operations, including hostilities involving Hezbollah in Lebanon. The second phase focused on lifting the naval blockade and restoring full maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran proposed that negotiations over its nuclear program should only begin after a ceasefire was fully implemented and shipping access was restored.

Adding to the uncertainty, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the conflict could not yet be considered over. In a televised interview, Netanyahu said Iran still possessed enriched uranium, active nuclear infrastructure, ballistic missile programs, and regional proxy networks that continued to pose security concerns. He argued that additional steps would be necessary to dismantle Iran’s capabilities before lasting stability could be achieved.

The sharp exchange between Washington and Tehran has intensified global concerns over the future of diplomacy in the region, particularly as disagreements continue over nuclear restrictions, sanctions relief, and military activity in the Gulf.
