Iran Warns Trump: New US War Could Last Longer Than Previous Conflict

Iranian military officials warned on Sunday, November 1, that any renewed war with the United States could last longer than the previous conflict. They said Washington would not decide when or how a future confrontation ends. The remarks followed President Donald Trump’s comments that US forces still had one or two targets to address in Iran.

Iran Army Spokesperson Says US Would Not Set War’s Duration

Mohammad Akraminia, spokesperson for Iran’s army, said a future conflict could be more prolonged than the earlier war and that the US president would not dictate its timing or conditions for ending. Iranian state television carried his remarks.

The warning refers to the conflict that began on February 28, 2026, when US and Israeli forces launched strikes on Iran. The attacks killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to reporting at the time. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks across the region. Iran-backed armed groups also joined fighting in Lebanon and Yemen.

Iran Defence Minister Warns of Retaliation

Iran’s Defence Minister Mehrdad Akhlaqi warned that any new attack would receive a decisive and proportionate response, according to Iranian state television. He said countries threatening Iran could not determine the scope, timing or consequences of Iran’s response.

The comments state Tehran’s position; they do not confirm that a new military operation has been ordered or is imminent.

IRGC Warns of a Wider Regional Conflict

Hossein Mohebbi, spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said a conflict with the United States would have no geographical limits, state television reported. His remarks followed a message from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who said Iranian forces would determine when and under what conditions renewed fighting ends.

Trump Says US Has Remaining Targets in Iran

On October 31, Trump said the United States had “knocked out” much of Iran’s military and nuclear capabilities but still had one or two sites to address. He said the targets could be struck within 10 minutes. Trump did not announce an immediate operation.

The exchange has renewed concern about US-Iran tensions. Iranian officials have warned of a prolonged and potentially wider response, while Trump has referred to remaining targets. Neither side’s remarks confirm that another round of fighting has begun.
