BJP begins month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 76 on September 17, 2026, as the Bharatiya Janata Party began its month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan across India. The campaign will continue until October 17 and is being organised around the completion of 25 years since Modi became chief minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001.
The BJP traditionally observes Modi’s birthday as Seva Diwas, or a day of service. This year, the programme has been expanded into a broader campaign involving party workers, beneficiaries of government schemes, students, youth groups and members of the public.
According to details released around the campaign, planned activities include blood donation camps, health camps, plantation drives, cleanliness programmes and voter-awareness initiatives. The party has also announced voluntary service activities under “Seva Mera Yogdan,” encouraging participants to devote time to service across different themes.
Another initiative, “Seva Ki Kahani,” is expected to feature beneficiaries sharing their experiences with government welfare programmes. School-level drawing and debate competitions, street plays and other outreach events are also part of the month-long schedule.
The campaign also includes the “Aashirwad Ka Diya” initiative, under which supporters and beneficiaries have been encouraged to light earthen lamps. Blood donation and cleanliness drives are among the most visible activities planned around Modi’s birthday.
October 7 marks 25 years since Modi became Gujarat chief minister
October 7 will be one of the key dates in the campaign because it marks 25 years since Modi took office as Gujarat chief minister in 2001. He remained chief minister until 2014, when he became prime minister, and is currently serving his third consecutive term in that office.
The BJP has said programmes scheduled for October 7 will include rallies and activities connected to its “Viksit Bharat 2047” messaging. The party has framed the anniversary around themes of public service, development and governance; those descriptions reflect the BJP’s presentation of Modi’s political record.
The wider campaign also includes youth-led yatras and motorcycle rallies connecting Vadnagar in Gujarat, Modi’s birthplace, with Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency. Participants are expected to interact with villagers, farmers, students, Anganwadi workers and youth groups during the journey.
A “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra” involving digital creators and social media influencers is also planned, with visits to locations identified by organisers as examples of development and transformation. The campaign is scheduled to conclude on October 17 with a “Jansevak Mahakumbh,” bringing together elected representatives from local bodies to Parliament.
With the month-long programme, the BJP is combining service activities, political outreach and anniversary events around Modi’s 25 years in executive public office. The campaign extends beyond his birthday and places particular emphasis on October 7, the date he first became chief minister of Gujarat.
