Amazon Eyes $7 Billion Decart AI Deal After Anthropic Backs Out
Amazon Decart AI acquisition talks could lead to a $7 billion deal after Anthropic abandoned its $6 billion bid. The potential takeover could strengthen Amazon AWS Trainium3 chips, Decart AI chip technology and cloud infrastructure.

Amazon is reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire artificial intelligence startup Decart in a deal valued at approximately $7 billion. The potential acquisition comes after rival AI company Anthropic abandoned earlier takeover discussions involving a proposed $6 billion transaction.

According to a Wall Street Journal report published on October 11, 2026, the Amazon Decart AI acquisition could become one of the technology giant's largest purchases in recent years. The move would strengthen Amazon's growing presence in artificial intelligence infrastructure, cloud computing and specialized AI chip technology.

Although negotiations are progressing, no final agreement has been announced. Sources familiar with the discussions suggest that a deal could be reached soon, provided the talks remain on track and no competing bidder emerges.

Amazon $7 Billion AI Deal Targets Decart AI Chip Technology

San Francisco-based Decart has gained attention for developing software that allows AI developers to switch between different computing chips more efficiently. This capability is becoming increasingly important as technology companies look for ways to manage rising artificial intelligence computing costs.

Founded in 2023 by Israeli engineers Dean Leitersdorf, Orian Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev, Decart focuses on advanced AI infrastructure and generative artificial intelligence technologies.

The startup has also developed innovative AI models, including Lucy and Oasis. Lucy supports real-time AI video editing, while Oasis generates simulated environments that can be used for robotics development and autonomous driving research.

These technologies could make Decart an attractive acquisition target for companies seeking to expand their AI capabilities beyond traditional language models.

Amazon's interest is closely connected to its efforts to strengthen Amazon Web Services (AWS), particularly its custom-designed artificial intelligence processors.

The company has been developing its Trainium chip family to provide customers with alternatives to Nvidia's widely used graphics processing units.

According to reports, AWS provided Decart with early access to its Trainium3 AI chip in 2025, reflecting an existing technical relationship between the companies.

Acquiring Decart could help Amazon improve software compatibility across different AI processors while making its cloud infrastructure more attractive to developers and businesses.

Decart has also attracted significant investor interest. The company has raised more than $400 million in venture capital from investors including Sequoia Capital, Benchmark and Radical Ventures.

According to PitchBook data cited by the Wall Street Journal, Decart was valued at nearly $4 billion in May 2026.

A potential $7 billion acquisition would represent a substantial increase in the startup's valuation within just five months.

Anthropic Decart Acquisition Talks End After $6 Billion Proposal

Before Amazon emerged as a potential buyer, Anthropic had reportedly explored acquiring Decart in a transaction worth approximately $6 billion.

According to Bloomberg News, Anthropic began considering the acquisition in August 2026 and conducted due diligence before deciding not to proceed with the deal in September.

The precise reasons behind Anthropic's withdrawal have not been publicly established.

The earlier negotiations highlight the growing demand for AI startups developing technologies that can improve computing efficiency and support increasingly complex artificial intelligence systems.

For Amazon, the proposed acquisition represents an opportunity to strengthen its position in a market where Nvidia remains a dominant supplier of AI computing hardware.

By combining Decart's software expertise with its AWS cloud infrastructure and Trainium processors, Amazon could potentially offer businesses more flexibility when developing and deploying AI applications.

The deal would also demonstrate how major technology companies are increasingly looking beyond AI models themselves and investing in the infrastructure required to operate them efficiently.

Amazon has made several major acquisitions in recent years, including its $6.5 billion purchase of MGM in 2022. A $7 billion Decart transaction would rank among its largest acquisitions, although the reported price and terms remain subject to negotiation.

Neither Amazon nor Decart has publicly confirmed a completed acquisition.

The Amazon Decart AI acquisition talks come at a time when competition for artificial intelligence infrastructure is intensifying worldwide. Companies are investing heavily in specialized chips, cloud computing platforms and software designed to make AI development faster and more cost-effective.

If the reported deal moves forward, Decart's technology could become an important part of Amazon's broader AI strategy.

For now, the proposed $7 billion acquisition remains under discussion, with the technology industry watching closely to see whether Amazon can secure the startup after Anthropic's earlier withdrawal.
