Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called for the early end to the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, underlining that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only way to resolve global disputes. His remarks came during a joint press conference in New Delhi with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, where Modi highlighted the growing instability in the world, particularly due to the ongoing wars in Ukraine and the escalating confrontation between the US, Israel, and Iran.
Modi emphasized that both India and Finland are committed to the rule of law and believe in resolving conflicts through peaceful dialogue. He stated that military conflict is never the solution to international disputes and reiterated India’s stance in supporting diplomatic efforts to achieve lasting peace in both Ukraine and the Middle East.
“India and Finland share a strong commitment to the rule of law, dialogue, and diplomacy. We firmly believe that military conflicts cannot resolve disputes. This applies equally to situations in Ukraine and West Asia,” PM Modi said, adding that both countries will continue to push for peace and stability in these regions.
The Prime Minister also noted the broader context of global instability and the changing geopolitical landscape. With tensions running high, particularly in the Middle East, where the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran in late February, Modi stressed the importance of international cooperation and dialogue in ensuring a stable future.
While the war in Ukraine, which began with Russia’s invasion in 2022, has already caused thousands of deaths and widespread displacement, the recent escalation in the Middle East has added to global concerns. Iran’s retaliation to the US-Israeli strikes has intensified, disrupting commercial and military activities across the region.
Modi also pointed to the evolving relationship between India and Europe, describing it as a "golden era" for global cooperation. Both India and European nations are increasingly seen as central diplomatic powers committed to stability and prosperity. In the face of growing challenges, India continues to advocate for peace and the use of diplomatic tools to address global conflicts, including those in Ukraine and the Middle East. With global tensions reaching new heights, PM Modi’s call for dialogue and diplomacy underscores India’s role as a proponent of peaceful resolutions and international cooperation in an increasingly unstable world.
