Iran's 7-Day Peace Plan: Araghchi Says Talks Continue With US

Iran is continuing diplomatic discussions aimed at ending its conflict with the United States, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi saying Tehran's proposed seven-day plan could be implemented faster if the necessary agreements are reached. His October 28 statement comes amid concerns about renewed military strikes and disruptions to global energy supplies.

Iran Seven-Day Peace Proposal

Iran's proposal outlines steps to reduce tensions, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume negotiations with Washington.

Tehran presented the plan through Qatari intermediaries in September, linking progress to changes in US military and economic restrictions.

The proposal has not been accepted by Washington, and discussions remain focused on whether both sides can agree on the conditions and order of implementation.

Abbas Araghchi Mediation Talks

Araghchi confirmed on social media platform X that Iran remains in close contact with intermediaries.

He said Tehran continues to pursue diplomacy while maintaining military readiness to defend the country.

The foreign minister suggested that the seven-day proposal could move forward in less than a week if practical arrangements are agreed.

However, his statement did not announce a ceasefire, a final agreement or a confirmed implementation date.

Strait of Hormuz Reopening Plan

The Strait of Hormuz is a major international shipping route connecting the Persian Gulf with global energy markets.

Under Iran's proposal, Tehran could reopen the waterway to commercial shipping if Washington accepts conditions involving military action, the naval blockade and restrictions on Iranian oil exports.

Disagreements remain over which side must act first and how commitments would be verified.

Any reopening could improve energy transportation, although normal shipping operations would depend on security conditions.

Iran Warns of Energy Market Disruption

Araghchi also warned that further military operations in the Persian Gulf could damage international energy markets.

Speaking about discussions at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Moscow, he highlighted the risks facing gas suppliers and consumers.

The continuing conflict has disrupted shipping and increased uncertainty about oil and natural gas supplies.

Concerns about possible renewed attacks have added pressure to international energy prices.

European Natural Gas Prices Rise

European benchmark natural gas prices briefly exceeded €100 per megawatt-hour on October 28, their highest level since 2022.

The Dutch TTF contract reached approximately €100.45 as traders assessed supply disruptions and winter demand.

The increase reflects uncertainty over Middle Eastern energy exports and Europe's need to replenish gas reserves.

Although the diplomatic discussions offer a possible route toward reducing tensions, significant disagreements remain.

For now, Iran's seven-day proposal represents an ongoing negotiation rather than a confirmed agreement to end the conflict.
