Hyderabad Metro becomes political flashpoint

Hyderabad Metro rail project in Telangana has turned into a political flashpoint as parties dispute responsibility over expansion delays and route planning. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has accused both the BRS and the BJP of failing to align metro expansion with public demand. The opposition argues that coordination failures between state and centre are being used as political cover, further deepening the dispute over responsibility for stalled metro routes.

BRS leaders have rejected the allegations, claiming the current government is deflecting responsibility instead of pushing new route approvals. BJP representatives, including Rakesh Reddy, counter that the ruling leadership made promises without execution capacity and is shifting blame for administrative delays. The ongoing exchange reflects a broader governance issue where infrastructure development is increasingly shaped by political rivalry, potentially slowing Hyderabad’s transit growth. Experts suggest prolonged disputes could delay critical mobility upgrades for the rapidly growing city.
