Germany says Turkiye has key leverage in Iran conflict diplomacy, pointing to Ankara’s strategic location, economic strength and political influence across several crisis zones.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul made the remarks during a press conference in Berlin alongside Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, saying Turkiye can play an important role in developments linked to the Iran conflict and the war in Ukraine.
Turkiye’s Regional Diplomacy Draws Attention
Wadephul said Turkiye’s geographical position gives Ankara a significant role in efforts to reduce tensions and support diplomatic initiatives. His comments highlighted Turkiye’s location between Europe, the Middle East and the Black Sea region.
The remarks also pointed to Ankara’s political and economic connections with countries affected by ongoing conflicts. For Germany, Turkiye’s role is not limited to one crisis but extends across multiple areas where diplomacy remains difficult.
Germany Highlights Ankara’s Strategic Influence
The Berlin meeting placed renewed focus on Germany-Turkiye relations at a time when conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine continue to shape European security concerns.
Wadephul’s comments suggest Berlin sees Ankara as a country with access, influence and regional understanding that could matter in diplomatic efforts involving Iran, Ukraine and wider Middle East tensions.
Gaza Healthcare Crisis Adds to Regional Pressure
Separately, the Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip appealed for urgent international support for medical imaging equipment, including X-ray machines and mobile diagnostic units.
The ministry said damaged medical facilities and equipment shortages have pushed imaging services close to collapse, making it harder for hospitals and clinics to diagnose and treat patients during the ongoing war.
The developments show why regional diplomacy remains urgent. As Germany points to Turkiye’s possible role in conflict mediation, hospitals in Gaza are warning that basic diagnostic services are under severe strain.
