Iran has dismissed recent claims made by former US President Donald Trump, responding with sarcasm to his remarks on ongoing geopolitical developments. In an unusually sharp diplomatic exchange, Iran’s embassy in Zimbabwe mocked Trump’s comments, suggesting he “turn off the phone,” reduce social media activity, and “block Bibi,” a reference to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The reaction followed Trump’s claim that Iran had agreed to keep the Strait of Hormuz open permanently and had made significant concessions, including on nuclear-related material. He further suggested progress in broader understandings involving Tehran, though no official confirmation was provided.
Iranian officials firmly rejected these assertions, stating that no such agreements exist. They reiterated that decisions related to Iran’s nuclear programme and strategic waterways remain matters of national sovereignty. Iran’s Parliament Speaker also criticised Trump’s comments as misleading, warning that Tehran could consider countermeasures if it continues to face pressure, including potential responses concerning the Strait of Hormuz.
The exchange highlights rising tensions and a growing war of words between Iran and the United States. While diplomatic channels remain open, public statements from both sides have intensified uncertainty, with Iran’s sarcastic tone underscoring its rejection of external claims and reflecting broader strains over regional security and nuclear policy.
