Pezeshkian Meets Mojtaba Khamenei Amid Iran Health Speculation

Pezeshkian met Mojtaba Khamenei to discuss Iran’s military situation, economic pressures, currency, energy and public needs. The meeting drew added attention amid continuing speculation over the Supreme Leader’s health and limited public visibility.

Pezeshkian Meets Mojtaba Khamenei

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has met Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei for detailed discussions on the country’s military, economic and domestic challenges, according to Iranian state media.

Press TV reported on August 9 that the talks addressed the needs of ordinary Iranians, the current military situation and the outlook for the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. The meeting came as Pezeshkian entered his third year as president.

The two leaders also reviewed broader government priorities at a time when Iran faces pressure from continued regional instability and economic disruption.

Iran Military and Economic Situation Discussed

According to the state broadcaster, Pezeshkian and Khamenei reviewed developments on the military front and discussed how the country should respond to changing conditions.

Economic issues formed another major part of the meeting. Discussions included securing financial resources, controlling expenditure and managing the Iranian rial, foreign currency and energy supplies.

The leadership also examined ways to expand Iran’s economic engagement with foreign partners. These issues have become increasingly important as Tehran seeks to manage domestic financial pressure while dealing with continued geopolitical tensions.

An account associated with the Supreme Leader also said the meeting included detailed discussions about public livelihood, military developments, resource allocation, currency management, energy and economic relations with other countries.

Khamenei Health Speculation Continues

The meeting attracted particular attention because it followed foreign media reports claiming that Mojtaba Khamenei was suffering from serious health problems.

Those reports have not been independently confirmed, and Iranian authorities have not announced that the Supreme Leader is critically ill.

Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency recently circulated undated footage showing Khamenei appearing in good condition. The release came as questions about his health and whereabouts intensified because of his limited public visibility.

The reported meeting with Pezeshkian therefore provides evidence of continued official activity, but it does not by itself settle questions about when the meeting occurred or the Supreme Leader’s current medical condition.

Mojtaba Khamenei Maintains Limited Public Profile

Mojtaba Khamenei became Iran’s Supreme Leader after his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed during US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, 2026.

Iranian state media later confirmed Ali Khamenei’s death, and Mojtaba Khamenei subsequently assumed the country’s highest political and religious position.

Since taking office, the new Supreme Leader has maintained a far lower public profile than his father and has relied heavily on written statements and official communications.

That limited visibility has helped fuel speculation over his health and role inside Iran’s leadership. The meeting with Pezeshkian is therefore significant not only because of the military and economic issues discussed, but also because it offers a rare official indication of direct engagement between Iran’s president and Supreme Leader at a sensitive moment for the country.
