Trump warns Iran amid fragile ceasefire and renewed Middle East strikes

A fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran is facing renewed uncertainty after escalating regional tensions and conflicting interpretations of the agreement. President Donald Trump issued a warning to Tehran, signaling that U.S. military assets remain on standby if the terms of what he described as a “real agreement” are not upheld.

The warning came shortly after Israeli strikes intensified in Lebanon, marking one of the deadliest days of attacks in the country. The escalation has raised concerns about whether the ceasefire extends beyond direct U.S.-Iran hostilities to include broader regional conflicts involving Israel and Iran-aligned groups.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that the terms of the ceasefire require a clear choice from Washington, arguing that the U.S. cannot simultaneously pursue peace while supporting continued military action through allies. His remarks followed reports of strikes in Beirut, underscoring Tehran’s stance that its regional partnerships remain intact.

Tensions have also centered on the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route. While U.S. officials indicated that the waterway has reopened, Iranian state media suggested disruptions linked to ongoing military activity. Shipping data indicates reduced tanker movement, highlighting lingering risks to global energy supply chains.

The ceasefire had initially aimed to halt direct hostilities and stabilize oil shipments, but diverging interpretations have complicated its implementation. The situation remains fluid as diplomatic efforts continue.

Senior U.S. officials, including Vice President JD Vance, envoy Steve Witkoff, and adviser Jared Kushner, are preparing to travel to Pakistan for talks in Islamabad. The meetings are expected to focus on de-escalation strategies and broader regional stability as uncertainty persists over whether the ceasefire can hold.
